Development sketch for the draft of my final weaving project in Intro to weaving. I’m going to attempt weaving Jay-Z at the scale of a poster on a full size loom, if it works I’ll call it “Watch the Throw”…

Three studios this quarter so I have a bit of a backlog of work to put up from weaving, computer aided surface design and electronic illustration which I’ll be posting over the next few weeks of finals for the sake of morale.  Just finalized plans housing/travel today for my design internship in the mens outerwear department of Ralph Lauren this summer - NYC is new to me so advice is welcome - good luck with finals to all the scaddies!

I really want one of the three patterns to be based on medals, but I’m concerned about being disrepectful or obvous, so here’s my first run through of potential approaches, though I think Fauvism is lost in the execution.

For my computer aided surface design class I was assigned “Fauve” and “Military” as the style/topic combination for our second project including three different patterns with the end goal of use in garments. Our prof asked us to make a bunch of sketches over the weekend and so we can weed out the good/bad/ugly or in my case the literal/representational/potentially disrespectful— these were some of the first attempts starting with scanned & edited pencil sketches through to digital sketches.

WIP textured spread for my brother’s poem, the upper hand should get some rendering going on this week, the lower hand is the personified memory of his ex so it should stay a somewhat flat/transparent shape for the final version.
